With an issue that I couldn’t find to read, Miss Fury comes to an end. Miss Fury was an oddity at Timely as its only series that collected newspaper strips, and I could never really follow the action.
The Miss Fury newspaper strip will continue to run until the early ’50s, after which Tarpe Mills will mostly retire from comics (returning to Marvel in 1971 to draw a romance story). Miss Fury strips will be reprinted by Archival Press in 1979 and IDW in 2011, while Malibu will revive the Miss Fury character in the early ’90s.
Miss Fury never really stood out, but as the first female comic book action hero created by a woman, she probably deserves to be the tiniest bit more well-known than she is.
