Kid Clampdown: Stumptown Recap: CRISITUNITY KNOCKS
Lisa: Did you know that the Chinese use the same word for “crisis” as they do for “opportunity”?
Homer: Yes! CRISITUNITY!
I’ve gotten myself into a spot here and I’m damn well going to draw my way out of it. I need to come up with a lot money that I don’t have, and I’d like to start…
long story short- my homeboy DW went to stumptown to try to make some money selling comics- instead he got art STOLEN and a hefty speeding ticket.

The original cover of the LORD OF LIGHT/Science Fiction Land pitch book by Jack Kirby. The CIA used these designs and changed the name to ARGO. All of this work is featured in our forthcoming documentary, SCIENCE FICTION LAND. As part of our Kickstarter rewards, we are offering a replica of this book, with 13 designs.

Concept art by Jack Kirby for a movie adaptation of Lord of Light, by Roger Zelazny. The producer even dreamed of creating a theme park (third picture).
The movie was never made, but the CIA used the script and the art to give more credibility to the production of the fake sci-fi movie Argo, a cover for a secret rescue operation during the Iran hostage crisis. Pictures via capnscomics. A good article about the role of the Kirby art in the operation here.
The film Argo (2012) is inspired from these events. Michael Parks plays the role of Jack Kirby.
